How To Get To Panama
February 4, 2009
by A. Smith
Panama has become one of the premier countries in the world for second homes and retirement. With a close historical relationship with the United States, political stability, dollar currency, an economic system friendly to investments and with easy access, Panama has proven to be ideal for a growing community of investors and retirees who appreciate the advantages that Panama offers to the international community.
Panama is the land bridge between two continents and divides two oceans, making it a crossroads of the world. Each year hundreds of cruise ships transit a modern wonder of the world, the Panama Canal. International Airlines serving Panama include not only those from North and South America but also from Spain, Russia, Taiwan and Israel. The following cities in the USA are currently the main connection points for flights to and from Panama: Miami, Orlando, Houston, Newark, New York, Washington DC, Dallas, Atlanta and Los Angeles. Panama’s International Airport is Tocumen International Airport, 35 Kilometers from downtown Panama City.
The Panama real estate market is something that is interesting to many investors as well as individuals that are looking to buy property abroad. Panama offers beautiful beach front properties as well as properties that are just as beautiful, but not on the water. Not only are many of the properties beautiful, but they can also be very affordable for investors and individuals alike. In addition to being affordable, most of these properties, when kept up, appreciate very quickly, allowing those that buy them to invest and then sell for a profit in relatively little time.
Panama’s national airline COPA flies to major cities in South America and cities in the USA in alliance with Continental Airlines. Copa Airlines offer direct service from Washington, D.C. to Panama City (and return) began last month and is available seven days a week. Copa is the only airline offering a direct flight available between the two capital cities--and best of all, the schedule will enable busy travelers to leave D.C. in the morning, conduct a day's worth of business in Panama, and return to the U.S. on an evening flight.
Copa Airlines currently flies to 40 destinations in 21 countries in North America, Central America, South America and The Caribbean. From the nine (9) major connection points the airline offers two outbound and inbound flights; one flight in the early morning, and the other in the late evening. Copa Airlines offer a competitive flight schedule, and with the company “Exceptional Customer Service?, pledge you can enjoy a quiet and pleasant flight at all times.
American Airlines is known worldwide for providing safe, dependable, and reliable air transportation to customers. In addition to the extensive nationwide domestic service, American Airlines offers service to Panama. The Airline has (1) one morning flight and one (1) early evening flight from the city of Miami. From all major connection points AA has numerous schedules allowing customers to be able to fly at their easiest convenience.
Airlines from all over the world fly to Panama. From the USA theirs is six (6) major airlines offering service to Panama and these are: American Airlines, Taca, Continental Airlines, Aviateca, Lasca, and Lloyd Aereo Boliviano. Their flexibility in their flights has allowed customers to be able to choose from various airlines, and schedule times throughout the day. In Central America there are five (5) major airlines that provide inbound and outbound flights to Panama. Mexicana, Copa, Aviateca, Taca, And Aereo Peru they have three (3) early morning flights, and (3) late evening flights with a frequency of five (5) times a week. In Europe and Asia KLM, Iberia, and Eva Airlines have two (2) morning flights and one (1) evening flight, with a frequency of twice a week. From Europe KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has revealed that it will begin direct flights to panama from summer 2008. The carrier will fly non-stop to Panama City Tocumen airport from its Amsterdam Schiphol base three times a week from the 30th of March. A total of 294 seats- 24 in world business class and 270 in economy- will be available on KLM’s services to the Central American location, which is the airline’s 62nd intercontinental destination. The company claims that the route will offer numerous connections’ at both ends, provided by KLM from Amsterdam and Copa Airlines from Panama City. Air France KLM is looking to consolidate its standing in Latin American and this service is expected to further strengthen the group’s presence in the region. The Panamanian economy is reportedly the fastest growing in Latin America, with a major project currently underway to expand the Panama Canal.
Because of its geographical position, Panama has been and will be a cross roads where many aerial and marine routes join. An example of this is the amount of ships that goes through the Canal every day. Also, the airlines that serve the American continent find in Panama a natural strategic hub for their flights because Panama is located right in the middle of the two big masses that are North and South America.
